One mod_rewrite entry and one PHP script later, I've got all of the Snarkout archives that were using the old, Greymatter URLs bouncing to the new, Movable Type URLs. Once I tweak a few oddities (the Greymatter archive indices, the projects and about pages, the bookmarks), I'll be entirely off of the static templates and using my new PHP-enabled templates. I'm still not sure if it's worth exporting all my Literary Year entries and importing them into MT, given that I don't plan on ever adding another page to that particular project.
I'm now using Movable Type on my main site. Mod_rewrite is in place for the archives. PHP is being pumped out. Almost everything validates as XHTML Strict. In a few days, I will be taking a look at my RSS files and possibly adding some random links, etcetera to the sidebar. Thanks to Claxy for his proofreading assistance in these troubled times.
I have Seven Things Lately now running, as far as I can tell; I'm in the process of setting the Snarkout templates up the same way. I couldn't figure out how to do the split between "real" permalinks (of the form 2003_10_31.php) and "as displayed" permalinks (or the form 2003/10/31/), so I just forced it with a plugin. I am beginning to really like MT's plug-in flexibility. Dropping in a regex or three -- which is all I'm going to need to 90% of the time -- is rock simple. I anticipate having Snarkout stood up (with some nagging problems) tonight or tomorrow.
W00t.
I've got Seven Things Lately cranking out pages. I'm using a few PHP tricks that will hopefully make maintainance a little bit easier; I've got a global filter written that will help keep me honest about some of XHTML Transitional's more prominent stumbling box. As soon as I get the individual pages looking right, I'm going to apply the templates to Snarkout proper and turn off Greymatter. That'll happen soon, if not today.
